Testing and Tuning of ABS Control Algorithm in a Simulated Environment

presented at EuroBrake, Dresden, Germany, April 2012

This presentation discussed the tuning methodology of ABS control algorithm for optimum user feel and perfromance. A simulation environment in which the wheel speed signals are emulated and presented to the ABS control algorithm triggers the actuation of the solenoid valves which results in variation of the pressure in the hydraulic brake line. The brake lever is held by the user to give a qualitative score of the brake feel, whether it is too harsh or high amplitude. As a result of using the simulated environment, several hundreds of on-road tests are avoided while testing the vehicle on the roads is avoided. This simulation setup comes after implementation of control algorithms that implement the functional ABS control algorithms.
